Identify
SwissID offers simple and free online identification with the SwissID App or on site. Having your identity verified enables you to sign electronic documents with a legally valid signature, among other things. You will also have access to your electronic patient record and to various online or government portals that require proof of identity. For example, you can deal with public authorities around the clock, regardless of the business opening hours.
The different levels of identification
Which level of identification you need depends on what services you would like to use. A personal SwissID account is required.

Which identification documents are accepted for the online identity verification?
Depending on the type of identification process and the purpose of this process, we support different identity documents. Here you find an overview of which documents are supported in which processes and for which purpose.
What are the technical requirements for online identity verification?
- At least 3 GB of RAM, four processor cores and a 16 MP camera (360 MB of RAM must be available while using the app)

Is it guaranteed that my identity has been successfully verified once the online identity verification has been completed?
The online identity verification is based on extremely stringent security requirements. We recommend that you carry out the verification in a well-lit area, and ensure that your entire face is easily visible throughout the video selfie process. You will be notified as soon as the identity verification is complete.
What happens to the information requested during the online identity verification?
The storage of data is defined as follows in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Electronic Signatures (ESigA):
The information (ID scan, passport certificate, video selfie, etc.) must be stored by SwissSign in an audit-proof archive for at least 11 years. The data is stored in Switzerland and is not used for commercial purposes.
What must I do if the identification is rejected?
Due to the strict requirements of the identity verification, there is a chance that yours may be rejected. Physical identification is another option (swissid.ch/locations).
